About Power Farming

Power Farming as a Whole

Power Farming Holdings Limited (PFG) is a fully independent and privately-owned group of companies who have a three-generation history of serving the New Zealand and Australian tractor and machinery markets. In 2017 PFG expanded its international footprint by securing the exclusive distribution rights to Deutz-Fahr tractors in the USA.

PFG now operates as three main trading groups:

  • Power Farming New Zealand – wholesale and retail distribution
  • PFG Australia – wholesale distribution
  • PFG America – wholesale distribution

Collectively, these three trading operations generate an annual turnover of approximately $350 million and employ around 380 people.

PFG sources leading tractor and agricultural machinery brands from around the world and distributes them through extensive dealer networks in all three countries. Without exception, the brands concerned are best-in-class products incorporating the latest in technology and design.

The various local markets are served from strategically located distribution hubs in Yatala (Queensland, Australia), Melbourne (Victoria, Australia), Christchurch (Canterbury, New Zealand), Morrinsville (Waikato, New Zealand), Fresno (California, USA) and Atlanta (Georgia, USA).

In New Zealand, the company owns, either in whole or in partnership with a local operator, an extensive nationwide network of 21 dealerships.

Growing the Business Success Story (History)

The origins of Power Farming Holdings Limited (PFG) can be traced back to Maber Motors, a small one-man operation established by Laurie Maber in 1948 to sell and service tractors and implements to the local farming community in Morrinsville, New Zealand.

Over the years Maber Motors expanded to three retail branches, thanks largely to Laurie’s unfaltering commitment to service and backup. This was very much a family business, and Laurie’s son Geoff joined Maber Motors soon after leaving school.

In 1977, Maber Motors secured the rights to distribute Iseki tractors in New Zealand, and Geoff eventually formed a separate wholesale company to fully develop this new opportunity. The new company was named Power Farming.

Iseki quickly became New Zealand’s top selling tractor and Power Farming grew at a fantastic pace. In 1981, the company was appointed Iseki distributor for Australia, and over the next two decades gradually built a stable of high quality tractor and machinery franchises from around the world.

In 2004 the company acquired Howard Australia, an iconic Sydney based importer and distributor of cultivation, mowing, seeding, and feeding equipment. Howard branded products now represent a key part of the company's product line-up.

In 2017 PFG expanded its international footprint by securing the exclusive distribution rights to Deutz-Fahr tractors in the USA, creating a truly global company.

PFG has now grown to become a major enterprise, with a considerable investment in people, facilities, and technology – all aimed at serving a customer base spread throughout the length and breadth of Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
