100 Years of Vicon

Vicon  (Vissers Construction Nieuw-Vennep), has evolved into an international manufacturer of farm equipment, with over two million Vicon machines sold throughout the world.

1957 Pendulum Spreader

The first Vicon machine was a horse-drawn semi-automatic potato planter, it was the first in a series of horse-drawn equipment that led to the development of the mower bar, finger-wheel rake and pendulum-type fertiliser spreader for which the Vicon brand is know for World Wide.

During the 1950s the eldest son Herbert Vissers expanded the company. New markets including the North America were found, and in 1955 Vicon opened a larger new factory in Nieuw-Vennep to cater for increased demand.

Vicon was successful in the 1960's with a sugar beet harvester, which performed extremely well even in the wettest conditions. Vicon extended the product programme with the spading machine, an innovative alternative for ploughing. Later that decade, the Vicon rotary mower was introduced as an important extension to the hay and grass harvesting programme.

In the early 1980s, Thyssen Bornemisza, a large industrial group looked upon the agricultural industry as a growth market and acquired full ownership of Vicon.  Vicon attained the Belgian sprayer specialist Allaeys, this set the foundation stone for the Vicon sprayer range.  They also purchased two manufacturers of cultivators, field sprayers, round balers and pull type combines to serve the North American wheat belt areas.

Vicon’s Nieuw-Vennep factory became a development centre of farm electronics and in the early 1980s pioneered the ISOBUS standard, which is now adopted worldwide throughout the agricultural industry as the next generation of machine control systems.

Thyssen Bornemisza combined Vicon, Zweegers, Rivierre Casalis and Deutz-Fahr implement companies together to create one organisation, called Greenland. This newly re-organised company adopted the single and strongest brand name, Vicon.

In 1998 the Norwegian Kverneland Group acquires Greenland. In 2008, the Kverneland Group simplifies its brand strategy to concentrate on its two strongest brands – Vicon and Kverneland.

Kverneland Group (Kverneland ASA - OSE: KVE) is a leading international company developing, producing and distributing agricultural machinery and services.  They offer an extensive package of systems and solutions to the professional farming community. The offering covers soil preparation, seeding, forage- and bale equipment, spreading and spraying. For more information on Kverneland Group visit www.kvernelandgroup.com
